    Ancient Literature


    We will read global, age-appropriate literature, write creative projects, and have discussions to explore important themes of literature and of humanity. We will utilize the five-paragraph essay in this class, as well as explore creative writing, and mechanics. This course is designed to foster an exploration of our multi-faceted world and enjoyment of reading same. This class can be paired with MS World History or taken separately.

    Engineering


    Engineering Class is where science concepts are learned and applied in a hands-on method of learning. We enjoy topics such as what engineering is, The Process of Engineering, Simple Machines, Problem Solving, Team Work, Newton’s Laws of Motion, Friction, Mechanical and Kinetic Energy. We will explore Civil Engineering, Hydraulics, Force and Pressure, Skyscrapers, Bridges and Arches -- just to mention a few! Donations of paper, boxes, tape (all kinds), rope, glue, and wire are always welcome.

    Middle School Math


    This class will focus on working on the math fundamentals needed to confidently move into a pre-algebra problem. Hands-on activities help to solidify concepts, making them readable and understandable to students so these principles can be applied in higher levels of math. We will also learn logical thinking using games and activities. This allows students to better problem solve and rationally think through the problems. Concepts covered will be: •Decimals •Number Theory and Fractions •Collecting and Displaying Data •Plane Geometry •Ratio, Proportion & Percentages •Integers •Perimeter, Area & Volume •Functions & Coordinate Geometry.

    Pre-Algebra

    This is a year-long course that covers the basic foundations of Pre-Algebra, which will lead students into Algebra I with confidence. ​ This class will use logic puzzles, games, and recreational math in order to build a solid level of confidence in students' abilities to apply mathematical concepts. Daily homework will be provided as well as tests given to check student progress and let the teacher know what topics need reinforcing.

    World History

    Computer Skills


    In this class, we will cover the basics of using a computer for work and play. From text and editing programs to the fundamentals of spreadsheets and file organization. Each week we will focus on a new computer skill so that we can build up the students' knowledge. We will be using free programs, mostly online in Google Drive. Students will need either a laptop or two-in-one (a tablet with a keyboard attachment such as a Chrome Book or Surface) running an up-to-date Windows, Mac, Android, or Google operating system.

    This class provides comprehensive experiences in drawing, painting, printmaking, mixed media arts, book arts, assemblage, and sculpture. Students will build on the elements of art and design principles through various projects while learning historical and contemporary art practices from a variety of cultures. High School age students will have the opportunity to build a portfolio with a concentration on personal interest and artwork for future college or career opportunities.

    You’re Sew Clever! Introductory


    In this class, we teach the fundamentals of sewing, giving kids new skills and the sense of accomplishment that comes with saying "I made this!" We start with basic techniques like hand-stitching and replacing buttons, before moving on to using a sewing machine to make actual wearable items. In the process, students develop their project planning, problem-solving, and spatial skills. Over the course, students will make a number of projects, including hair scrunchies, throw pillows, sleep shorts, totes, and aprons.

    Cooking Adventures


    Introductory cooking class that will start from basics and work towards building on those skills. We will learn the art of meal planning by using sales flyers, basic supplies to have on hand, have “Iron Chef” challenges and much more fun. We often share our creations with teachers and students during our lunch break.  Both classes will be making the same food weekly. We do not use peanuts or tree nuts in our lessons; please reach out if you would like to discuss other allergy restrictions.
